Participation and Enrollment
Q: Who has to complete the online training?
A: Any student with a graduate assistant contract must complete the training.
Q: How do I get started with the training?
A: You will be automatically enrolled in the training on HuskyCT. Simply go to your courses and click on the GA Online Program for Teaching and Instruction to get started. You can move through at your own pace.
Q: I don’t see the course listed in my HuskyCT account, but I think I am required to take it. What should I do?

Q: I already have extensive teaching experience. Can I have the requirement waived?
A: No, the training includes the most current, essential UConn policies and information that all graduate assistants, regardless of their experience, need to complete. However, your experience may help you move through the training materials faster.
Q: Can I take the training if I don’t currently have a graduate assistant contract?
A: Yes, any UConn graduate student may take the training if they wish. Contact GAonlinetraining@uconn.edu.
Q: If I am not a teaching assistant, why do I have to complete the training?
A: The training materials cover content that is relevant to all graduate assistants including important UConn policies, support services, and resources. Mandatory completion by all GAs reflects UConn’s commitment to quality teaching.
Q: What does the training contain?
A: The training is comprised of four modules that provide critical information related to UConn policies and offices, classroom management, the fundamentals of teaching and learning, and grading and time management.
Q: How is the material delivered?
A: Training includes videos, readings, links to material on the web, and quizzes.
Q: Will my performance on the training modules be graded or evaluated?
A: You must pass each of the four module quizzes with at least 85% of questions correct. You can take it as many times as you need. Your department head will be notified when you have successfully completed the training.
Q: When do I need to complete the training?
A: For those enrolled in the Fall 2016 session, training must be completed by January 20, 2017.
Q: How long will it take me to complete?
A: The training is expected to take between 2-4 hours.
Q: Do I have to repeat the training every year?
A: No, you only need to complete the training once in your UConn career.
Q: How will I document that I have completed the training?
A: HuskyCT will track your progress and completion on the training. Once completed, a certificate of completion will be generated on HuskyCT.
Q: Can I use my GA hours to complete the training?
A: Yes, your TA coordinator has been notified of this new training and as it is a condition of your continued employment, you may use up to four of your GA hours to complete the training.
Q: If I want more preparation and information on teaching, what other resources are available?
A: You can find more resources for teaching assistants at UConn on the CETL website. Additionally, there is the option to extend your training by enrolling in the one-credit Seminars in College Instruction course and by completing the Graduate Certificate in College Instruction (GCCI).
